Velvet & Stone “Oh Boy” (Indie Folk) Devon UK

Do not expect any bells and whistles with the track I am about to introduce to you, just an honest track that starts optimistically cold but soon turns up the heat allowing the female phoenix to rise!

The track I am speaking of is “Oh Boy” by Contemporary Folk duo Velvet & Stone.  Velvet & Stone consists of singer/songwriting/musicians Lara Snowdon (lead vocal/acoustic guitar) and Kathryn Tremlett (violin/backing vocals) and they have spun string into silk with this track.

“Oh Boy” starts with low soulful, southern, harmonic hums and percussions and builds with layers of instrumentation that supports the song’s storyline of renewing yourself after a part of you has died from a tumultuous relationship – fervent violins, acoustic and electric guitars, double bass, keys, and a banjitar.  In addition, the lead vocalist’s drivingly anguished, yet confident, execution of the song pairs well with the ambivalence-spurred backing vocals to support lyrics containing nuances of loss, bitterness, and a carrying hope – all equally complementing the duo’s message of strength and hope.

“Oh Boy” is the first single from Velvet & Stone's debut album that dropped on March 1 of this year.  This double hand-clap, foot stomp-worthy, modern Contemporary Folk track will easily become our generation’s rhapsody.
